Illegal Eavesdropping Continues
August 10, 2008 – 2:19 pmSocialist leader Oleksandr Moroz said in an interview earlier this month in Sevodnia that the SBU was continuing to illegally listen in on political leaders in Ukraine. His conversation with a British diplomat were published on the internet in January 2007. Moroz used this to argue (as have other Ukrainian leaders) that the SBU is continuing the practice from the Kuchma era of illegally listening to the regimes opponents.
I can say that Moroz is right. In February of this year my internet was read and a document I sent was republished in the Rupor internet publication and then in the anti-Tymoshenko obozrevatel

The memorandum republished in Rupor was sent from the Beatles theme internet café on Pushkinska Street in Kyiv. It was sent to the US Ambassador to Ukraine and other US officials and analysts who follow Ukraine and dealt with the presidential secretariats attempts to replace the orange with a grand coalition. ‘Operation Baloga’, the title of the memorandum, was later quoted by Interior Minister and Peoples Self Defense leader Yuriy Lutsenko.
The owner of Rupor is Volodymyr Kosterin, a big businessman who heads the Green Party of Ukraine since 2006. Kosterin is a member of Our Ukraine-Peoples Self Defense in which he was a parliamentary candidate but failed to enter the 2006 or 2007 parliaments. In the Kuchma era Kosterin was head of the pro-Kuchma Zlahoda NGO that supported Kuchma’s re-election in 1999 http://www.greenparty.ua/command/Kosterin/
Who was illegally reading my email when I was in Kyiv? The SBU, SBU freelancers or another intelligence organisation? Why was I under observation? Under whose behalf: the presidential secretariat?
Under Kuchma I was never aware of being under observation by an intelligence organisation. Under Yushchenko it seems not everything has changed and some things have gotten worse.
